Every university India officially recognises.
All 1,074 of them, taken from the University Grants Commission's own published list. Search a name, filter by state, and see the recognition date, the type, and the NIRF rank where there is one.

Most families do not arrive with a college name. They arrive with a course, a city and a budget. Start there and we will do the finding.

How to read this list
What this list is, and what it is not.
This is the University Grants Commission's own list of universities, as published by the UGC and dated 25 January 2023. We have not added a single name to it and we have not removed one. The NIRF ranks come from the National Institutional Ranking Framework's 2025 tables, published by the Ministry of Education.
We do not rank anybody. CollegeJaancho has no score, no rating and no list of its own. Every number on this page belongs to a government body, and you can open that body's own page and check it. That is deliberate: a ranking we invented could be influenced, and a government record cannot.
Being on this list is the floor, not the ceiling. It means the university is recognised. It says nothing about teaching, placement or whether the fee is fair. Those are the things our Jaancho Reports look at, one university at a time.
Where a university is ranked, you can open its own official file. The "official data" link on those cards opens what that institution filed with NIRF, on the government's server. It carries the sanctioned seats for each programme across six years, the real student strength and the faculty count. We copy none of it, so the next NIRF cycle updates that link on its own.
There are no fees on this page, and that is deliberate. No government register publishes a reliable, current fee for every university, and the number a college advertises is rarely the number a family ends up paying. So rather than print a figure that would be wrong by the time you read it, we work the real fee out for one college at a time and show you where each charge is published. The Sharda report is what that looks like: the programme fee, and then roughly ₹1,24,500 of admission, examination, registration and alumni charges sitting on three separate pages. Ask us for your college and we will do the same.
Not every institution belongs here. A college affiliated to a university will not appear under its own name. Nor will an institute approved only by AICTE, or an IIT or NIT, which are Institutes of National Importance and sit on a different register. If you cannot find a name, that is not proof of anything. Send it to us and we will check the right register.
Found your university? Now check it properly.
Recognition is one of eight things worth checking. The others are the fake-university list, NIRF, NAAC, the real fee, the scholarship conditions, placement disclosure, and a word with a student already studying there.
Send us the name on WhatsApp. We check it against public record, tell you what we found, and publish the report here for everyone.
Questions people actually ask
What this list is, and is not.
How many universities are recognised in India?
The UGC's consolidated list of universities, as published on 25.01.2023, carries 1,074 universities. All of them are searchable on this page with the UGC entry number, the state, the year of recognition, whether the university is state, private, central or deemed, and the NIRF 2025 rank where there is one. CollegeJaancho adds nothing of its own to that list.
My college is not in this list. Does that mean it is not genuine?
No. This list is of universities. A college affiliated to a university does not appear here, and neither do the IITs and NITs, which sit on different registers. For an affiliated college the check is whether its parent university is on this list, because the degree comes from the parent. Sending the name on WhatsApp gets the right register checked, free.
Is this list ranked?
No. This is the UGC's own register reproduced as a searchable list, not a ranking. Where a NIRF rank exists it is shown as NIRF's figure, linked to the institution's own filing with the Ministry of Education.
