Sikkim
UGC approved universities in Sikkim: all 30.
There are 30 universities in Sikkim on the UGC's own lists: 2 state universities, 27 private universities, 1 central university. Each entry shows where the UGC lists it, and we have added nothing of our own.
What this page is. The University Grants Commission's own lists of universities in Sikkim (the consolidated list dated 25.01.2023 and the UGC website as on 23.09.2026), plus the NIRF 2025 ranks where an institution took part.
Every ranked institution here links to its own official data. The "official data" link opens the file that institution itself filed with NIRF, hosted on the government's server. It carries the sanctioned seats for each programme across six years, the actual student strength, and the number of faculty. We do not copy any of it, so when NIRF publishes the next cycle the link shows the new figures without us touching anything.
What it is not. Being on this list means recognised. It says nothing about teaching, placement, or whether the fee is fair. And a college affiliated to one of these universities will not appear under its own name, which is normal.

Ranked institutions in Sikkim, by course
From the NIRF 2025 tables published by the Ministry of Education. Showing the top few in each; the full table is one click away.
No institution from Sikkim has a numbered rank in the NIRF 2025 tables. That is not a verdict on the state.
NIRF prints individual ranks only for the top of each table and lists the rest as rank bands such as 101-150. 3 institutions from Sikkim are placed in those bands: Engineering 151-200, Engineering 201-300, University 151-200. Each link opens the NIRF page that lists them.
Scholarships in Sikkim
A student in Sikkim can normally apply on two tracks at once: the central schemes on the National Scholarship Portal, and the state's own. Both are free, and no agent should ever be paid to fill either.

The state's own scholarship route. Deadlines are set by the state and are usually earlier than families expect.

One application for most central schemes. A hard deadline, no late window, and no appeal.
Ask your college for its NSP institute code before you pay the admission fee. Without an active code it cannot verify your application.

Questions people actually ask
What a family in Sikkim wants to know.
How many universities are there in Sikkim?
The University Grants Commission's consolidated list of universities (as published on 25.01.2023) together with the university lists on the UGC website (as on 23.09.2026) carry 30 universities in Sikkim: 2 state universities, 27 private universities, 1 central university. This page lists every one of them, with the UGC entry number and the year of recognition where the consolidated list gives them. CollegeJaancho adds nothing of its own to that list.
Which institutions in Sikkim are ranked by NIRF 2025?
No institution from Sikkim has a numbered rank in NIRF 2025, but 3 are placed in rank bands, which NIRF prints without individual ranks: Engineering 151-200, Engineering 201-300, University 151-200. That is not a verdict on the state.
How do I check whether a college in Sikkim is genuine?
Two UGC documents settle it, and both are linked from this page. The first is the consolidated list of universities, where a recognised institution carries an entry number. The second is the UGC's state-wise list of fake universities, which names institutions that have no authority to award a degree at all. A college that awards a degree must be on the first list and absent from the second. For an affiliated college rather than a university, check that its parent university is on the first list, because the degree comes from the parent.
Which scholarship portal do students in Sikkim use?
National Scholarship Portal applies for state schemes, and central schemes run through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. Both are linked on this page. CollegeJaancho does not print scheme amounts or income limits anywhere on this site, because they are revised every session and a stale figure misleads a family. The scheme's own page always carries the current condition.
What does CollegeJaancho charge for a check?
Nothing. The check is free for a student and a family. Send a college name on WhatsApp and the check comes back based on public record.

Recognition is one of eight checks. Send us two or three names and we will check the fake-university list, NAAC validity, the NIRF rank, what the fee actually adds up to, and what the scholarship really requires. Free.
