What this page is. The University Grants Commission's own list of universities in Punjab, dated 25.01.2023, plus the NIRF 2025 ranks where an institution took part.
Every ranked institution here links to its own official data. The "official data" link opens the file that institution itself filed with NIRF, hosted on the government's server. It carries the sanctioned seats for each programme across six years, the actual student strength, and the number of faculty. We do not copy any of it, so when NIRF publishes the next cycle the link shows the new figures without us touching anything.
What it is not. Being on this list means recognised. It says nothing about teaching, placement, or whether the fee is fair. And a college affiliated to one of these universities will not appear under its own name, which is normal.

How many universities are there in Punjab?

This page lists every one of them with its UGC entry number and the year it was recognised. CollegeJaancho adds nothing of its own to that list.
Which institutions in Punjab are ranked by NIRF 2025?
NIRF 2025 ranks 20 institutions from Punjab, across 47 table entries, because an institution ranked in more than one field appears in more than one table. Those tables cover colleges and standalone institutions as well as universities, so this count is not a subset of the 34 universities on the UGC list. Among them: Chandigarh University (University, rank 19); Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed-to-be-university) (University, rank 26); Chandigarh University (Overall, rank 32); Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed-to-be-university) (Overall, rank 44). NIRF ranks only the institutions that submitted data for a field, so a college missing from a table has usually not filed, which is not a verdict on it. Every rank on this page links to the institution's own filing with the Ministry of Education.
How do I check whether a college in Punjab is genuine?
Two UGC documents settle it, and both are linked from this page. The first is the consolidated list of universities, where a recognised institution carries an entry number. The second is the UGC's state-wise list of fake universities, which names institutions that have no authority to award a degree at all. A college that awards a degree must be on the first list and absent from the second. For an affiliated college rather than a university, check that its parent university is on the first list, because the degree comes from the parent.
Which scholarship portal do students in Punjab use?
Punjab Scholarship Portal applies for state schemes, and central schemes run through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. Both are linked on this page. CollegeJaancho does not print scheme amounts or income limits anywhere on this site, because they are revised every session and a stale figure misleads a family. The scheme's own page always carries the current condition.
What does CollegeJaancho charge for a check?
