Bihar
UGC approved universities in Bihar: all 34.
There are 34 universities in Bihar on the UGC's own lists: 21 state universities, 8 private universities, 4 central universities, 1 deemed to be university. Each entry shows where the UGC lists it, and we have added nothing of our own.
What this page is. The University Grants Commission's own lists of universities in Bihar (the consolidated list dated 25.01.2023 and the UGC website as on 23.09.2026), plus the NIRF 2025 ranks where an institution took part.
Every ranked institution here links to its own official data. The "official data" link opens the file that institution itself filed with NIRF, hosted on the government's server. It carries the sanctioned seats for each programme across six years, the actual student strength, and the number of faculty. We do not copy any of it, so when NIRF publishes the next cycle the link shows the new figures without us touching anything.
What it is not. Being on this list means recognised. It says nothing about teaching, placement, or whether the fee is fair. And a college affiliated to one of these universities will not appear under its own name, which is normal.

Scholarships in Bihar
A student in Bihar can normally apply on two tracks at once: the central schemes on the National Scholarship Portal, and the state's own. Both are free, and no agent should ever be paid to fill either.

Questions people actually ask
What a family in Bihar wants to know.
How many universities are there in Bihar?
The University Grants Commission's consolidated list of universities (as published on 25.01.2023) together with the university lists on the UGC website (as on 23.09.2026) carry 34 universities in Bihar: 21 state universities, 8 private universities, 4 central universities, 1 deemed to be university. This page lists every one of them, with the UGC entry number and the year of recognition where the consolidated list gives them. CollegeJaancho adds nothing of its own to that list.
Which institutions in Bihar are ranked by NIRF 2025?
NIRF 2025 ranks 7 institutions from Bihar, across 11 table entries, because an institution ranked in more than one field appears in more than one table. Those tables cover colleges and standalone institutions as well as universities, so this count is not a subset of the 34 universities on the UGC list. Among them: Indian Institute of Technology Patna (Overall, rank 36); Indian Institute of Technology Patna (Engineering, rank 19); National Institute of Technology Patna (Engineering, rank 53); Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya (Management, rank 31). NIRF prints individual ranks only for the top of each table and lists the institutions below them as rank bands such as 101-150, so a college that is missing from the numbered ranks may still be placed by NIRF, and a missing name is never a verdict on it. 7 institutions from Bihar are placed in those bands: College 101-150, Engineering 201-300, Innovation 11-50, Management 101-125, Overall 101-150, Overall 151-200, University 101-150, University 151-200. Every numbered rank on this page links to the institution's own filing with the Ministry of Education.
How do I check whether a college in Bihar is genuine?
Two UGC documents settle it, and both are linked from this page. The first is the consolidated list of universities, where a recognised institution carries an entry number. The second is the UGC's state-wise list of fake universities, which names institutions that have no authority to award a degree at all. A college that awards a degree must be on the first list and absent from the second. For an affiliated college rather than a university, check that its parent university is on the first list, because the degree comes from the parent.
Which scholarship portal do students in Bihar use?
Medhasoft applies for state schemes, and central schemes run through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. Both are linked on this page. CollegeJaancho does not print scheme amounts or income limits anywhere on this site, because they are revised every session and a stale figure misleads a family. The scheme's own page always carries the current condition.
What does CollegeJaancho charge for a check?
Nothing. The check is free for a student and a family. Send a college name on WhatsApp and the check comes back based on public record.

Recognition is one of eight checks. Send us two or three names and we will check the fake-university list, NAAC validity, the NIRF rank, what the fee actually adds up to, and what the scholarship really requires. Free.
