Where the numbers come from
Everything below is somebody else's record.
The recognition below is the UGC's and the rank is NIRF's.
The UGC record
Periyar University appears at entry 811 on the UGC's consolidated list of universities, the list as published on 25.01.2023 It has been recognised since 1998. It is recorded there as a state university in Salem, Tamil Nadu.
NIRF 2025
NIRF publishes a separate ranking for each field. It prints individual ranks and scores only for the top of each table, and lists the institutions placed below them as a rank band such as 101-150, alphabetically and without scores, on a separate page. Periyar University is recorded with a numbered rank in University and in rank bands for SDG Institutions (11-50) and Overall (151-200).
This page prints only the placements CollegeJaancho has matched to the UGC record by name and state, as read from NIRF's pages on 7 October 2026. A table that is not shown here is not a statement that Periyar University is absent from it, and not being placed in a table is never a mark against an institution.
Its strongest position is University, at rank 94 of the 100 institutions that table lists, where the highest score was 85.05 against this one's 47.98.
On the same UGC list, Tamil Nadu holds 68 universities, and at least 26 of them are placed in NIRF 2025, at a numbered rank or in a rank band. This is one of those.
NAAC accreditation
NAAC publishes its own list of institutions holding a valid accreditation. On that list, as on 14 August 2025, this institution is recorded as follows.
| Name on the NAAC list | PERIYAR UNIVERSITY |
|---|---|
| AISHE code | U-0470 |
| Grade | A++ |
| CGPA | 3.61 |
| Cycle | 3 |
| Date of declaration | 28 December 2021 |
A NAAC grade is not permanent. It is awarded for a fixed term and has to be renewed, so the date of declaration above is the figure a family paying several years of fees actually needs, and it is the one a brochure rarely carries. We print the record as NAAC states it and draw no conclusion from it. If the institution holds a more recent record, it can write to us and we will update this page.

Each filing above is a PDF the institution itself sent to the government. Under Sanctioned (Approved) Intake it carries the real seat numbers for every programme across six years, with student strength, faculty count and expenditure beside them. If anybody promises you a seat, the promise has to fit inside those numbers.
Four things this page cannot settle
A record is a starting point, not a verdict.
Recognition and rank say nothing about what your family pays or what your degree is worth. Each of these has its own page, written once and kept current.
The state portal for Tamil Nadu, and the central schemes, are listed on our government scholarships page, and every other university in the state is on the Tamil Nadu page.

Is the online degree from Periyar University valid?
Periyar University ki online degree valid hai? The answer sits in the lists of the UGC's Distance Education Bureau (UGC-DEB), which we checked on 17.09.2026. Periyar University was not found on the two UGC-DEB Online lists for academic year 2026-27 (the UGC-DEB list of HEIs entitled to offer full-fledged Online programmes, academic year 2026-27 (list title and year: deb.ugc.ac.in), and the UGC-DEB list of HEIs recognised to offer Online programmes, academic year 2026-27 (list title and year: deb.ugc.ac.in)). It appears on the UGC-DEB list of HEIs recognised to offer Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes, academic year 2026-27 (page 79; list title and year: deb.ugc.ac.in). That is a distance learning list, not an online one. NIRF prints individual ranks only for the top of each table and lists the institutions below them as rank bands, so a table that is not named here is not a statement that the institution is absent from it, and it is never a mark against the institution. Every numbered rank on this page links to the institution's own filing.

CollegeJaancho prints the record as NAAC states it and draws no conclusion from it.

The institution's own NIRF 2025 filing carries its Sanctioned (Approved) Intake, the real seat count for every programme across six years, with student strength, faculty count and expenditure beside it. If a promise about a seat does not fit inside those numbers, the institution cannot keep it.
